Vici Nagel                 

Vici Nagel, President/CEO

The daughter of a Colonel in the United States Marine Corps, Vici was born in Philadelphia, has traveled to all of the 48 contiguous United States and Hawaii, and lived in many communities.  She is a graduate of Salisbury State College (now Salisbury University) in Maryland where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.  Vici has 30+ years of successful nonprofit and for-profit business experience and joined Academy for GrassrootsOrganizations in 2002.  She is "AcademyGO's" first CEO.

Vici has worked in leadership positions for a variety of charitable organizations including The American Cancer Society, United Cerebral Palsy Association, and the Volunteer Center of Orange County.  During her career she has owned and operated a successful trucking business with her husband ... even learning to drive a “big rig” herself; helped create a new nonprofit agency; was instrumental in completing a corporate merger of two nonprofit agencies; helped create the first “County of Light” with the Points of Light Foundation; received "Certified Fund Raising Executive" credential (CFRE); and planned and implemented many successful projects, fundraising campaigns, and events.  She has trained hundreds of nonprofit leaders in the art of fundraising and loves to mentor new fundraisers, nonprofit executives, and board members.  Serving others is at the core of Vici’s values.  Through the years she has volunteered with many nonprofit organizations, schools, and churches.  Vici is a member of the Alliance for Nonprofit Management, the California Association of Nonprofits, the Healthy High Desert Steering Committee, and the San Bernardino County Capacity Building Consortium, of which she is one of the founders.  She and her husband George volunteer with their church and live in Oak Hills, California.  Their life's goal is, "To glorify God with our lives."

DEBBIE A. CANNON, Vice President/COO

Debbie joined Academy for Grassroots Organizations in 2003 as a volunteer, serving on the Board of Directors and as it's Chairperson for two years.  She joined the staff in 2008.

She served in the United States Marine Corps where she was trained in computers and electronics.  This begins her career in database management and marketing.  After leaving the military she worked in various jobs in the corporate world relating to communications, marketing, and production printing for the next 30 years. Her experience brought many opportunities to do public speaking about technology, leadership, and teamwork.

Debbie has been involved in many community focused groups including Executive Board of Hesperia Chamber of Commerce, Goodwill Business Advisory Council, Superintendent of Schools, Alliance Education, San Bernardino County Capacity Building Consortium and Give BIG San Bernardino Regional leaders.  She is also a frequent speaker at community events.

Since joining AcademyGO in 2008 her responsibilities include membership development, marketing, and fundraising. She is currently the President for the Inland Empire Chapter of Association of Fundraising Professionals.

GEORGE NAGEL, Executive Assistant

A long-haul truck driver for more than 30 years, George joined AcademyGO in 2003.  During his tenure, he has served in numerous positions including database consultant, event organizer, administrative assistant and now Executive Assistant.  He is often referred to as the “man behind the scenes” making sure things run smoothly.  When not working to support the efforts of the Board of Directors and his CEO wife, George enjoys a twice weekly racquetball club, gardening, reading, and his beloved dogs (Mac pictured).  He and his wife Vici attend High Desert Church in Victorville where George is the volunteer leader of a small group Bible study in their home.

PAULA MARTINEZ, Program Assistant

Paula has an extensive background with membership organizations including serving as Executive Assistant, Hesperia Chamber of Commerce as well as Program Assistance for Center for Nonprofit Management. Her responsibility includes network meetings, training, membership, and marketing.
